Equality
2020

Spanning 5.3 × 4.3 meters, one of my first ever murals, the mural powerfully communicates the message of inclusivity by featuring the word ”equality” in the 33 most spoken languages in Finland. Created using traditional sign painting techniques, each letter was meticulously hand-drawn, traced onto the wall, and painted with a brush, reflecting the craftswomanship and care that went into every detail. The brief was also to match the mural with the artworks already painted next to the library.

I painted the mural during the 2020 Concreate Urban Art Festivalon the outer wall of the Pasila suburb library in Helsinki, the mural celebrates Finland’s diverse cultural landscape while promoting the universal value of equality. The multilingual representation symbolizes unity and the idea that equality transcends language barriers, fostering a sense of belonging for all. It encourages viewers to reflect on how we can all contribute to a more equitable world.
